The confident hands of guitarist David Burgess have a masterful way with Latin American guitar music. Throwing himself into each dance with passionate abandon, the tangos, sambas, and traditional melodies come alive.
From the familiar sounds of Antonio Carlos Jobim's 'Samba do Aviao' to the unique rhythmic delights of Baden Powell's 'Berimbau,' Burgess' flawless technique never hesitates. The strength of his performance heightens the beauty of the touching melodies of the many varied compositions, as different from each other as Spain from Peru.
Of particular note is the elegant 'Milonga del Angel' by Argentina's master of the tango, Astor Piazzolla. Burgess' haunting and melancholy performance is testament to the power of the guitar, on par with music written for any instrument in the orchestra.
