Liturgical music has always meant to inspire awe in its listeners, be it an awe of its elegance, power, beauty or righteousness. The compositions assembled for this collection take a distinctive approach. Each is extraordinarily delicate, yet overwhelming in its scope. Immense choruses sustaining hushed notes for an eternity evoke the solemn and reverent pace of timeless ritual.

The short compositions share a consistent tone, each piece leading to the next as an inevitable conclusion. The tonality of a piece such as Rimsky-Korsakov's 'Our Father' leads gently from the refined majesty of Rachmaninov's 'Grant us this O Lord,' distinct, yet irrevocably connected by theme and style.

From the producers of NPR's HEARTS OF SPACE, SACRED TREASURES III has the same ambient, contemplative feel of the weekly radio show. The music rises and falls in gentle waves, a tide that cannot help but sweep listeners away.
