Notes & Reviews:

Marc-Antoine Charpentier is recognized today as the greatest French composer of the 17th century. His sacred music is full of dramatic harmonic tension, contrasts and sensitive word-setting and even an Italianate intensity of feeling. This selection of Marian motets illustrates not only a devotion towards the Virgin Mary but the composer's ability to convey moods ranging from the festive and sumptuous to the personal and intimate.
