Notes & Reviews:
With it's juxtaposition of ancient and modern styles, Gregorian chant--like passages and Bach-style narrative sit side by side with modern extended vocal techniques. The work is scored for massed choirs, large orchestra, three vocal soloists, and a narrator as Evangelist, just lkke Bach's Passions. After its premiere, the piece was hailed as one of the most important works of the 20th Century. This is the only recording of this work currently available.
