Notes & Reviews:

Swiss composer Frank Martin's oratorio "Golgotha" found its inspiration in Rembrandt's etching "The Three Crosses". It was Martin's desire to depart from the Bachian model of a Passion and present a contemporary oratorio. Beginning with repeated cries of "Pere, Pere, Pere!", it ends with a radiant, otherworldly evocation of heavenly light. This, the only available recording of this splendid work, is a "must get" set for anyone intrigued by the notion of 20th century oratorio.
