Notes & Reviews:
This fine disc offers two quite complementary works by an American composer: Melinda Wagner, and a Danish composer: Poul Ruders. The Wagner work, entitled "Concerto for Flute, Strings and Percussion", is a Pulitzer Prize winning composition from 1999. Indeed, the piece is artful and original, with a most effective use of instrumental combinations. The Rudders work is based on a Purcell theme, which is developed in a most unexpected, playful, and interesting manner.
