Notes & Reviews:

This latest release in the groundbreaking "Contemporaries of Mozart" series from Chandos includes all five of Samuel Wesley's surviving symphonies, and as such presents an interesting survey of his stylistic development. The symphonies are arranged chronologically on the album, and it is amazing to hear the vast improvement in Wesley's art over some 20 years. One can only assume that it was due to his exposure to the music of Mozart. Great playing and recorded sound.
