Notes & Reviews:

"Glorious John" was not known in this country for his Mahler interpretation, but this 1967 concert of the Symphony No. 4, featuring soprano Heather Harper, was enthusiastically received when first issued last year. The other disc in this specially-priced box set features Barbirolli conducting Elgar's "In the South", Walton's "Partita for Orchestra", as well as Britten's "Sinfonia da Requiem" and "Variations & Fugue on a Theme of Purcell".
