Violinist Isabelle Faust and pianist Silke Avenhaus bring just the right balance of flamboyant bravura and artistic restraint to these three chamber music gems by Robert Schumann. The First and Second Violin Sonatas are readily available in alternate versions, but this Faust/Avenhaus reading can stand with the best. It is the presence of the rare Third Sonata, Op. posth. that makes this a particularly attractive version. Great music. Great performances.
