Notes & Reviews:

Michael Gielen's performance of the Mahler Second Symphony with the SWR Baden-Baden and Freiburg Symphony Orchestra is the finest Mahler Symphony recording of the new millennium, and among the finest readings of the Second in several decades. The best elements of some of the finest readings of the past are here, recalling Klemperer, Haitink, Mehta and Abbado; but this performance is Gielen's own. All departments of this orchestra sound awesome, and Hanssler's sound is superb.
