Notes & Reviews:
In this anniversary series of Beethoven's symphonies with the Berlin State Opera Orchestra, the conducting honors were shared by Pfitzner, Strauss, E. Kleiber and now with the last symphony, Oscar Fried. Fried gave up composing in 1913 to devote his entire energies to conducting. His empathy for the human voice and his understanding of the symphony orchestra are on full display in this 1929 recording, transferred by David Lennnick.
