Notes & Reviews:

"Apollo e Dafne" is the best of "Handel's handful" of Italian cantatas for more than one voice, with instruments, composed on his first trip to Italy at the age of 21. "Silete Venti" is a later work in the same vein. These are not church works, but miniature operas full of spectacular singing. Soprano Karina Gauvin has a most attractive voice, and she sings alone in the 24 minute "Silete venti". Les Violons du Roy is a modern instrument group that plays in period style. Recommended.
