Alternative Press (3/01, p.80) - 3 out of 5 - "...A knock-off of 1978-vintage K-Tel collections...hits-and-miss. Some versions are too rote to bother with others are inspired..."

With Los Angeles KROQ DJ Rodney Bingenheimer serving as executive producer, Blockbuster: Glitter Glam Rock Experience assembles a host of latter-day alternative and punk bands to cover classic material from the heyday of British glam rock. Mainstays like David Bowie, T. Rex, Sweet, Slade, Mott the Hoople, Suzi Quatro, and Gary Glitter are all represented, if only occasionally by their better-known songs. If the collection has a weak spot, it's in the artists doing the covers -- a fair number are pretty obscure, and while some acquit themselves well, others just don't lend much personality to their versions. Some of the bigger names here include the Donnas, Dramarama, Nick Heyward, and Cyclefly, plus a one-off collaboration involving Eric Erlandson and Melissa Auf der Maur (Hole), Kathy Valentine (the Go-Go's), and Clem Burke (Blondie). ~ Steve Huey
