Notes & Reviews:

Paul Juon was a student of Sergei Taneyev, who himself studied with Tchaikovsky and Rimsky-Korsakov. The major works on this album are the Rhapsody, Op. 37 of Juon and the Piano Quartet, Op. 20 of Sergei Taneyev. There is only one other recording of Juon's Rhapsody while the Taneyev appears to be a CD debut. Both works date from 1906. These romantic Russian works are beautifully performed. Borodin's Polovetsian Dances in an arrangement for Piano Quartet round out the program nicely.
