Notes & Reviews:

Bohuslav Martinu is one of the classic figures in 20th century music. He was a student of violin and organ at the Prague Conservatory and was a member of the Czech Philharmonic Orchestra. He studied composition with Josef Suk in Prague and Albert Roussel in Paris. From 1941 to 1953 he lived in the U.S., teaching composition at the Curtis Institute and at Princeton. The seldom recorded pieces presented here form an e excellent introduction to this important composer's work.
