Notes & Reviews:

A contemporary of Mahler, pupil of Raff and protege of Liszt, the American-born MacDowell received his main musical education in France and Germany during the latter nineteenth century. MacDowell's music is highly evocative and atmospheric, full of melodic freshness and attractively colorful scoring. These two eagerly awaited additions to Naxos' American Classics series feature two rarely recorded suites that are beautifully performed, and immediately appealing.
