Andreas Scholl - A Musicall Banquet

Notes & Reviews:

"A Musicall Banquet" from countertenor Andreas Scholl is a beautiful collection of songs from the zenith of the Renaissance. Robert Dowland described his 1610 publication "A Musicall Banquet" as containing a "varietie of delicious Ayres Collected out of the best Authors in English, French, Spanish and Italian." Included in this cross-section of Renaissance European song are such master pieces as John Dowland's brooding "In darkness let me dwell" and Caccini's "Amarilli mia bella."
