Notes & Reviews:

Bantock's "Hebridean Symphony" is a powerful work, lyrical brooding and violent. It makes much use of folk-inspired material, and frequently shows the influence of Sibelius and Richard Strauss in its command of atmosphere. Overall it conjures up the images of a legendary Nordic saga. By contrast the "Old English Suite" and "Russian Scenes" are superbly constructed light music. The first contains arrangements of well-known pieces by Elizabethan composers.
