Notes & Reviews:

A prolific and highly successful contemporary of Haydn and Mozart, Vanhal worked most of his life in Vienna as a freelance composer. Although he was not a church musician by profession, Vanhal's large output of sacred music contains some of the finest settings of the Mass composed in late 18th-century Vienna. This CD is unique in the catalog, and can be highly recommended to listeners who have not yet gotten enough of the great sacred music of Vanhal's illustrious contemporaries. -H&B
