Notes & Reviews:

Sylvius Leopold Weiss was by far the most outstanding lutenist of the Baroque era. Contemporary accounts mention him together with Bach, Handel, and Telemann as one of Germany's most accomplished musicians. If you enjoy lute music and have not been following this splendid series from Naxos, it's time to investigate. Weiss's music is characterised by beautiful, extended periods of florid counterpoint and sorrowful, bittersweet laments. Beautifully performed and recorded.
