Notes & Reviews:

Notorious for its orchestra of pianos, percussion, electric buzzers and aeroplane propellers, the Ballet Mecanique is actually quite an interesting work. Given it's odd instrumentation, it is somehow strangely traditional in it's use of compositional techniques from earlier periods. In the Serenade for String Orchestra and the Symphony for Five Instruments, Antheil nearly beats Stravinsky at his own game. Recommended to the habitual explorer.
