Album Summary

>Moyzes, Alexander : Symphony no 9, Op. 69
>Moyzes, Alexander : Symphony no 10, Op. 77
Conductor Ensemble Composer

Notes & Reviews:

Alexander Moyzes must be considered one of the leading Slovak composers of the early twentieth century. To the orchestra of the great late romantics such as Richard Strauss and Gustav Mahler, Moyzes adds astringent harmonies and rhythms drawn from the folk music of his native country, creating an individual yet highly approachable musical voice. The turbulent Symphony No. 9 prefaces the idyllic Symphony No. 10, seemingly inspired by Dvorak, Brahms and Tchaikovsky.
