Notes & Reviews:

"Arthur Bliss wrote two string quartets between the two world wars that exploited tertian harmony - a practice that had been abandoned by many composers on the European continent. [The] A-major Quartet... is clearly inspired by Debussy, Dvorak, and Elgar. II is a particularly beautiful slow movement that sounds like it is based on an English folksong. All the playing is excellent, full of imagination and life." - Fine, ARG

International Record Review
the Magginis are joined by Nicholas Daniel and Peter Donohue in the quintets; Martin Outram and Julian Rolton are violist and pianist respectively in the Sonata. There are excellent booklet notes and the recording quality is splendid throughout...
