"Although largely forgotten today, the music of Julius Weismann enjoyed considerable popularity in Germany in the 1920s and 30s. Weismann composed some 260 songs and duets, spread over his entire career, but most of those recorded here are early, dating from very early in the century. The style is close to Wolf's, whose music was a strong influence. Beyond that, Weismann's gift for melody suggests earlier models: Schubert and Schumann." - Althouse, ARG
