Notes & Reviews:

Dvorak's first 'Piano Quintet' is a comparatively early work, written in 1872, shortly after he had begun to devote himself full time to composition. It was substantially revised in 1887, and Dvorak appears then to have set it aside to begin work on another quintet in the same key. The later work is natually more mature and assured, and demonstrates the composer's interest in the use of Czech folk material.
