Notes & Reviews:

New Mahler symphony recordings from Michael Gielen need little recommendation for the many followers of this series on Hanssler. This highly acclaimed cycle earns consistent high praise from the critical press. On this latest release, in addition to the composer's lightest symphony is a work by Franz Schreker which began life as a prelude to his opera Die Gezeichneten (The Marked Ones). It was dedicated to the Vienna Philharmonic and had its premiere in 1914.
