Notes & Reviews:
The product of separate concerts at Paris's Cite de la Musique last spring, this fascinating album is the fruit of an idea Claudio Abbado had several years ago to juxtapose reinterpretations of favourite Schubert lied by distinguished composers. The composer-arrangers featured are Brahms, Britten, Reger, Webern and Berlioz, whose late arrangement of "Erlkonig" sung by von Otter, can be counterposed with Reger's version, sung by Quasthoff. Abbado leads the Chamber Orchestra of Europe.Notes & Reviews:
This album received the 2004 Grammy Award for Best Classical Vocal Performance.
