Notes & Reviews:

Wihelim Kienzl is quoted as having said during the 1920s, 'It is sad, in what a confused time we are condemned to live. Modernity makes me completely wild; I cannot be atonal and do not want to be, but not banal or old-fashioned either.' As very personal musical confessions, Kienzl's three String Quartets reflect this problem as it was experience during each phase of his life.
