Notes & Reviews:
The collection of attractive pieces for the flute by French composers conjures up a carefree period in Paris, one that ended with the Great War of 1914. This was a time when salon music flourished and when the flute, in particular, found a new role for itself, as France developed its own characteristic musical language in which woodwind had such a part to play. The music included ranges from Berlioz to Gounod to works by lesser known composers that still have charm of their own.
