Commissioned by the Louisville Orchestra in 1949, Schuman's landmark dramatic work 'Judith', a choreographic poem for dancer and orchestra, garnered enormous praise when it premiered in Louisville in January 1950. The gripping, highly moral 'Prayer in Time of War', and the intense Symphony No. 4 offer the listener a compelling portrait of an enduring American master.
