- Gustav Leonhardt (Harpsichord)
Notes & Reviews:
"Leonhardt has always had a reputation for a certain astringency and seriousness, which manifests itself in a number of variations with ponderously slow tempos - among them Variations 6, 11 and 24. His severity does fit the tragic Variation 25 quite well - the performance has a barren desolation that makes me shiver. Other variations display grace and lightness, with brisk tempos to match. The sound is remarkably clear and distinct for 1953." - Haskins, American Record Guide
