Elgar, Barber: Cello Concertos / Gastinel, Brown, Birmingham

Album Summary

>Elgar, Edward : Concerto for Cello
>Barber, Samuel : Concerto for Cello, Op. 22
Performer Conductor Ensemble Composers

Notes & Reviews:

Both of these concertos carry an air of romanticism and nostalgia. This was Elgar's last orchestral masterpiece, written shortly after World War I destroyed the world he had known; Barber finished his relatively unknown concerto in 1945, just after finishing his war service in the US Air Force. This CD was recorded at the Birmingham Symphony Hall, which has some of the best acoustics in the world.
