Massenet: Thaïs / Wolff, Esposito, Massard, Michel, et al

Album Summary

>Massenet, Jules : Thais
Performers Conductor Ensemble Composer

Notes & Reviews:

Once one of Massenet's biggest hits, 'Thais' is seldom heard today except for the suavely beautiful 'Meditation', an orchestral interlude with violin solo; but there is a great deal more gorgeous music in this colorful opera full of oriental high melodrama. The story, from a novel by Anatole France, concerns a moralizing monk who ditches his habit for the desert's hottest tart.
