Poul Rovsing Olsen: Belisa

Album Summary

>Olsen, Poul Rovsing : Belisa, opera, Op. 50
Performers Conductor Ensemble

Notes & Reviews:

"The music is a curious hodge-podge of styles, mainly atonal, some 12-tone, expressionist, some Arab influences, a bit of Orientalism, some exotic, some erotic. Oddly enough, it works. It is hardly memorable with 'take home tunes', but it subtly captures the grotesqueries of the story. The ending is actually rather attractive and moving. The performance is quite splendid, the orchestra sumptuous and a sympathetic Don and a coldly calculating Belisa." - Parsons, ARG
