Notes & Reviews:

This performance which took place in April, 1964 is held by many of Guilini's admirers as being the greatest performance he ever gave of this work. Alec Robertson, the noted music critic at the time, said of Guilini's performance, 'the most musical and most spiritual one ever remembers hearing'. The singers, notably the celebrated American mezzo, Grace Bumbry, add to the superb ensemble together with the Wilhelm Pitz leading the Philharmonia Chorus.
