Notes & Reviews:

"Georgi Vasilievich Sviridov is not widely known outside Russia, but his music is widely known there. The major work on this program, 'Petersburg', occupied Sviridov for 20 years and was finally completed in 1995 and dedicated to Hvorostovsky and Arkadiev. It consists of nine short poems by Alexander Block written between 1901 and 1914. Each song in the cycle is a depiction of individual longings and sufferings versus the all-powerful forces of nature and the mighty city." - ARG
