Notes & Reviews:

"Audiophiles will be interested in this, because it can be played either on a standard CD player of SACD. Everything about this release is excellent: program, performance, sound, engineering, and notes. Instead of asking why somebody did this yet again, I can say that I'm really glad they did." - Crawford, American Record Guide

BBC Music Magazine
... adaptations... of The Four Seasons... by the violin soloist and director of these performances, Federico Guglielmo, and his continuo harpsichordist, Nicola Reniero. Very plausible and enjoyable they sound, too, with their many instances of deft and evocative deployment of horns, recorders... oboes and bassoon among the customary and authentic strings. The playing of L'Arte dell' Arco is first rate, with particularly sensitive contributions from Guglielmo himself.

American Record Guide, November/December 2012
With the great success of The Four Seasons came several imitators, including Giovanni Antonio Guido, whose Four Seasons of the Year came out eight years later and was also accompanied by poems explaining what the music was all about. Those were not concertos like the Vivaldi but suites of anywhere from 5 to 13 movements. Guido's pleasant trifles are no more than a pallid attempt at tone painting next to The Four Seasons; and that rich tapestry of strings and woodwinds - whether actually envisioned as such by Vivaldi or not - is the main reason to buy this. Note that you can also buy it as an LP, CPO 777 759.
