Notes & Reviews:

The Lausanne Chamber Orchestra and Christian Zacharias are simply the very best when it comes to the orchestral music of Viennese classicism. This Requiem was written for the Requiem Mass of his patron Archbishop Count Sigismund Schrattenbach, the Archbishop of Salzburg from 1753 to 1771. The two sonfonias on the recording exhibit Haydn's preference for five movement symphonies as opposed to the four movement style of Mozart or of his brother Franz Joseph.
