Notes & Reviews:

Symphony No. 7's title is an homage to Switzerland, the country of Raff's birth. However, unlike Richard Strauss' 'Alpine Symphony', Raff's composition does not depict mountain ascent and descent. Rather, the Alpine accents in his illustrative tone-painting do not distract the listener from grasping the symphony as a whole. The 'Jubilee Overture, Op. 103', a fantasy on 'God Save the King', is included as an encore.
