Notes & Reviews:

Born in Russia in 1871, Vladimir Kastorsky became a leading bass at the Mariinsky Theater in St. Petersburg, famous especially for singing the leads in 'A Life for the Tsar' and 'Ruslan and Ludmila'. In 1908, he created the role of Pimen in 'Boris Godunov' at the first performance in Paris. Although self-taught, he won critical praise and sang for over four decades, displaying his beautiful voice of distinctive timbre.
