This third release in the Naxos British Piano Concertos series brings together a fascinating collection of piano concertos by four very diverse composers. Rowley's Concerto has a breezy, open-air freshness about it. 'The Concertino' by Darnton is couched in a spiky neo-classical idiom. Gerhard's glittering Concerto combines serial technique and elements of Spanish folk music, and Ferguson's lyrical 'Concerto' has at its heart a melancholy theme with six variations.
