Album Summary

>Stradella, Alessandro : San Giovanni Battista, oratorio
Performers Conductor Ensemble Composer

Notes & Reviews:

Alessandro Stradella, born in 1639, had one of the most colorful biographies in music. His various romantic scandals and his death in a public street at the hands of assassins have overshadowed the fact that he was indeed a brilliant composer. The oratorio 'St. John the Baptist' is generally considered his greatest work. It was written in 1675 under the patronage of Queen Christina of Sweden, who was living there after her conversion to Catholicism.
