Notes & Reviews:
This disc presents classic Chandos recordings of two spectacular choral works by a supreme master of the British choral tradition. Herbert Howell's music is distinctive and highly attractive and this double-disc finds the composer at this most flamboyant and exciting. Howells' 'Stabat Mater' offers a subtle range of treatments, and includes a variety of marvelous inventions. The 'Missa Sabrinensis' is the most difficult and technically demanding of all his large-scale works.
