Bernstein protg Marin Alsop leads the Bournemouth Symphony Orchestra in some of the American legends most intriguing works. Bernstein described his Serenade, inspired by Platos Symposium, as a series of related statements in praise of love, and he considered it his most satisfying work. Facsimile, a work by turns acerbic and tender, depicts post-war malaise and the spiritual vacuum of modern man. The Divertimento for Orchestra was composed for the centenary of the Boston Symphony.
