Notes & Reviews:

The Leipzig String Quartet performs some of the most groundbreaking repertoire from France for string quartet. If the quartet by Ravel is considered a seminal moment in French music history, the other two composers represented here worked to move the genre in a different direction.

BBC Music Magazine
The Leipzigers aren't short on delicacy, supple rubato or sensitivity to subtly shifting moods and colours. But without conveying the feeling that they're imposing anything on the music, they manage to bring out darker undercurrents at the climax of the first movement, and almost all the way through the slow movement. The Tailleferre and Milhaud quartets may be slighter, but the Leipzigers bring the same refined seriousness to this music too, with excellent results.
