Album Remarks & Appraisals:
Since 1973 Jon Gibson has been making startlingly beautiful solo music for saxophone and flute that owes nothing to the jazz tradition. This concerto was recorded live in the Sorbonne Cathedral of Paris in 1979 and remains one of the most brilliant examples of Gibsons unique and hypnotic solo performances. It is a long overdue and essential release by this important and pioneering musical giant.
The Wire (p.56) - "Gibson casts iridescent screens of sound across the underlying maths. CRISS X CROSS can be enjoyed for the sustained skill and ingenuity of Gibson's phrasing and accentuation."
