Eugen D'Albert: Tiefland / Paul Schmitz, et al

Album Summary

>d'Albert, Eugène : Tiefland
Performers Conductor Ensemble Composer

Notes & Reviews:

Based on the play Terra baixa by the Spanish playwright Angel Guimera (1849-1924), Tiefland (Lowland) has proven to be the one work that truly keeps alive the name of Eugen DAlbert. Stylistically, DAlbert spans the worlds of Wagner and Richard Strauss. The core of the plot of Tiefland involves Marta and Pedro, both victims of difficult circumstances and both falsely accused of crimes. The social message of the opera concerns the contrasts between the natural goodness of the mountain people versus the people of the lowlands, whose morals have been corrupted by civilization.
