Notes & Reviews:

Johann Hasse was born at Bergedorf, near Hamburg. Around 1724 he arrived in Naples where he studied under Alessandro Scarlatti. Both works on this album, the Requiem and Miserere, are the work of a seasoned master of liturgical music, one whose fame led him to perform and conduct throughout the major European capitals. We must thank the enterprising folks at Carus for this unusual and enlightening program of choral music.

Gramophone Magazine
The Dresden Chamber Choir sings with stunning clarity and perfect blend, alert to small details in the counterpoint, while Hans-Christoph Rademann ensures that the broad sweep of the whole adds up to more than its attractive parts. These ingredients make this one of the best Baroque choral performances on disc so far this year.
