Notes & Reviews:

"This is one of the most beautifully played and recorded performances of the Bartok and Lutoslawski Concertos that I've heard. The orchestra's sound is dark and sumptuous - but not too sumptuous - and it plays with control but is not a mere extension of Jarvi's baton... With so many recordings of the Concerto around, it's hard to make an absolute statement about any of them, but if this is not the most polished performance, it's up there... If Jarvi's control reins in the fire and folk color of Bartok, it unleashes the power and depth (if not the fire) of the Lutoslawski more than any recording I've heard... The ensemble and intonation of the high strings near the end of the middle section are eerie in their accuracy, and the brass at the end are dazzling for their proficiency and even production." -Hecht, ARG
