Notes & Reviews:
In 2006 the Tsarina Maria Fjodorovna was returned from Copenhagen to St. Petersburg to be buried by the side of her husband, Alexander III. This was the incentive to commemorate the "fin de siècle," when Russia and Denmark contributed so much to new choral music. The Copenhagen Royal Chapel Choir's participation in the historic reburial inspired the issuing of this CD.
American Record Guide, January/February 2013
The excellent Copenhagen Royal Chapel Choir consists of up to 80 boys and 30 men; they have toured internationally, and often represent their nation at state occasions. The boys get their musical training and education at Scandinavia's only choir school, and it shows. They perform very nicely here, though I did hear some slight sliding into pitches, especially in the Tchaikovsky pieces. In other places their intonation sounded a touch off in places, but that could have been due in part to the highly reverberant acoustics of the Copenhagen Cathedral, where this program was recorded. Otherwise, their sweet and (in places) very robust tone was a joy to the ear. The recorded sound seemed to suffer somewhat from the place. The deluxe booklet is useful and complete. Boy treble fans, in particular, should enjoy this no end.
